Does chewing gum have a nutritional value/calories?
Question by GetMeNow | 2013-02-02 at 20:21
I absolutely love chewing gum, it can be a huge amount per day. So far, I have never thought about, whether chewing gums actually have a nutritional value or any calories (KCal)?!
So, maybe, would it be better to give the one or the other gum a miss? Or can I safely chew as much as I want?

I have a pack of sugar-free gum lying around here on which is stated: 100 grams have a nutritional value of 790 kJ (190 kcal) and are containing 0 grams of protein, 0.3 grams of fat and 70 grams of carbs.
With this, I get about 3 kcal per chewing gum and of course, this is very little. To get a hamburger equivalent, you'd have to chew about 150 gums.
Probably, the laxative effects that is rumored with chewing gums would weight heavier in this case...
