Eyelid is twitching constantly

Question by Guest | 2012-02-07 at 18:41

I'm really quite worried! For about a week, my eyelid on the eye twitches constantly. I can not control that at all! Simply, the eyelid begins to twitch sometime, then jerks a while and as soon as it has startet, so quickly it stopps again after some minutes.

As I said, this has been going since about a week and so slowly I start to get worried. Is it something bad? Perhaps the harbinger of a disease? Otherwise, I feel actually pretty good. Can someone help me?

Do you have a lot of stress currently? If the eyelid is twitching, this is usually a sign of physical or mental strain. Take some time and go at things a little more calm and relaxed.

I also had that once, a lot of stress at work during this time. But after the holiday, everything was in order again. So, rest can really help you.

A twitching eyelid can really be quite annoying! I speak from personal experience. I am particularly confused about the fact, that my fellow men may realize the twitching and could ask me what's wrong with me.

From a purely medical view, a twitching eyelid is usually harmless and requires no medical treatment. You have to know, that twitching muscles in humans are completely normal. Just because we are particularly sensitive to the eye, it is difficult for us to ignore it at this point rather than at all other points, where a muscle twitching mostly remains unnoticed.

There are two reasons for this twitching. Firstly, stress, as the previous speaker has already said, and secondly, a lack of minerals. Such a deficiency you get for example, with an unbalanced nutrition or too much sports without a proper balance of nutrients.

Usually, the twitching of the eyelids will go away someday. But if you want to do something, you can look for some rest (should stress be the cause) or change your food or take a lot of vitamins to you.

Vitamin pills have helped me. I have heard, that this can come particularly from a lack of calcium. However, I am not sure about this, but in the vitamin tablets was definitely calcium included.

Usually, it really goes away after some time from alone. Especially in stressful times, the eyelid can sometimes twitch and sometimes it does not stop for long time, I speak from personal experience here.

Otherwise, you can also go to a neurologist. Namely, it could also be a sign of an epilepsy or a movement disorder of the eyelids (dystonia). Nevertheless, it is of course a lot more likely that the true cause is too much stress.
