How to secretly find out the ring size of my girlfriend?

I would like to make my girlfriend a present of a ring for her birthday. When I was at the jeweler the salesman requires the ring size of my girlfriend to be able to choose a fitting ring.
Now, I have a problem. I have not even known at all that rings can have different sizes, much less I know which size my girlfriend wears! How can I now secretly find out which size is right for her?

It is quite simple: If your girlfriend is not at home or if she is taking a shower for example, just pick up one of her rings and measure it. The measurement should be accurate to half a millimeter. That should be enough for the jeweler to find the right ring size.
And one compliment to you: I think it's great that you give yourself such a trouble to make your girlfriend happy.
