Insert empty line into multiple text files

Question by Mail Request | Last update on 2022-10-22 | Created on 2017-05-23

I have to insert an empty line into very much text files, each line should be inserted after the second line.

I have tried to do this with the application TextConverter Basic, but I have not made to do it. I can insert an arbitrary text into an existing line using this program, but I do not know how to insert a complete new line, so that all other lines are sliding one line down.

Can you help me?

In the latest version of the TextConverter, there is now the function "Add Lines" available for this task, which you can find in the line actions.

To insert an empty line after the second line with this function, you can proceed as follows:

  • Activate the action "Lines > Add Lines".
  • Since you want to insert an empty line, the field "Line Content" remains empty. Alternatively, you could enter the text of the new line here.
  • Enter "2" as "Insertion Position". This inserts the new empty line as a new second line.

If you want to insert multiple lines, you can also specify several insertion positions here (for example "2-4" for 3 new lines from the second to the fourth line or "2,4" for 2 new lines in the second and in the fourth Line).

For the case that you are still using an old version of the TextConverter, I have attached my old answer under this answer.

This answer refers to an old version of the TextConverter. In the answer before this answer, you can find out how this task can be done in the current version.

You can try the following procedure:

Use the function "Insert" and select the options "At the start..." > "...of this Line:" > "3". Then you can write the text you want to insert into the text box under the options. The most important part: You only have to write a line break into the box (just type the enter key for one time).

If your old file was something like that:

1
2
3
4
5

Then your new file will look like that:

1
2

3
4
5

With this procedure, you are able to insert a new empty line at a specified position of a text file.

If the line should contain any text, you can just write your desired text into the text field and press the enter key after typing the text. This will add a new line containing the text at your specified position.
