How to open a TAR.GZ file?

I got a file with the extension tar.gz by mail. I have no idea what that file is and I have no idea how I can open it.
Can someone help me?

A file with the extension tar.gz is an archive file, just like ZIP or RAR files. In other words: In the file, can be included any other file.
In your place, I would download the program 7Zip. This tool can open tar.gz files just as a variety of other archive files. The program is also freeware.
