Smartphone: Mobile Internet suddenly away - symbol for transmitting and receiving data still active

Question by Series Junkie | 2013-08-01 at 11:17

Today, my Samsung Galaxy smartphone has shown a strange behavior: although the symbol for Internet access is still be displayed in the status bar (E and H icons are indicating that I am connected to mobile Internet), at a moment's notice, the Internet stopped working. Bizarrely, even the arrows for sending and receiving were still twinkling!

However, strangely, sending text messages and phone calls are working without any problems! So, could it be a problem of the network?

Can someone help me and tell me what I can do? I am stranded without internet on my phone!

Sometimes, I can also see this behavior on my phone. From my experience, following these steps can help:

  1. First of all, try to switch to Airplane Mode, wait a moment in this mode and then disable the Airplane Mode again. To 90 percent, this brings my Internet back. Using the Samsung Galaxy S3, for example, you can turn the flight mode on and off by holding down the button on the right side of the phone for a while and then selecting Airplan Mode from the menu.
  2. If this procedure has not helped, it may help to switch off the phone completely in order to reboot it. You can find the restart function also in the same menu in which you can find the Airplan Mode by pressing the button located at the side of the device.
  3. In cases both things cannot help, it is quite possible that the network is overloaded at your place or there is some other problem with the net. Here, the only thing you can do is to wait for a better net or to change the location and to seek for a better network at another position.
  4. Only if they these 3 points are not successful, I would worry about your smartphone or your SIM card. The best thing to check them for a damage is via your network operator or your merchant.

I hope I could help you with these tips. Personally, I am experiencing a sudden silence of the Internet about two or three times per week. Up to now, I could not figure out the exact reasons for this, but probably it is a software error of the mobile phone or something with the connection to the network, because usually it is working after re-dialing again into the network.

The trick with the flight mode causes that the phone once completely log off the network and then logs on again.
