VirtualBox: How to open OVA file?
Question by Guest | Last update on 2021-07-26 | Created on 2014-12-17
I just got some virtual machines which I would like to see in VirtualBox now.
However, the files that were sent to me, are of the format OVA. Up to now, I have only imported files with the formats VBOX and VDI. How is it possible to open an OVA-machine?

An OVA file is a TAR archive containing all required files for the virtual machine.
It should be sufficient to just open the file with a double-click from the Explorer or you can select "File > Import Appliance" from the menu in VirtualBox.
