Unlike the zodiac signs such as Scorpio, Aries or Leo, in the Chinese Horoscope the zodiac signs are not calculated based on the birth-day but on the year of birth.

In total there are 12 Chinese animal signs repeating every 12 years. Therefore, 2014 is the Year of the Horse, 2015 the Year of the Sheep and 2016 the Year of the Monkey.

The following table gives an overview of the years from 1912 until 2031.

Important: The Chinese year does not begin at our January, the first. It is based on the solar year and can vary between 21. January and 21. February. Accordingly, someone whos birthday is on 10. January 1984, is a pig (1983) and not a rat (1984).

A detailed overview of which Chinese year begins at which date, can be found in this table of Chinese Zodiac Signs and Elements in the Chinese horoscope and calendar.
