How to know what I need to know in high school and for exams?

Many pupils and students going straight in the direction of their graduation or any other exam, are unsure, what they have to know for their exams. This little tip puts together all relevant sources and points of contact, which should be used in this context and show you, what you should be aware of.

Teacher

Of course, the first point of contact should be the teacher in the relevant subject. The teacher should explain to his students and pupils exactly what he expects, what the requirements are in the tests and, of course, what main topics are set. At least, he should tell his students and pupils, what issues are important and what issues are unimportant.

Unfortunately, it happens too often, that teachers are not aware of this obligation. In this case, you should definitely speak to your teacher again and again and hope, that he eventually gives some information. Otherwise, only our other tips can help you.

Lessons

Even a teacher who does not say anything about his demands, indirectly reveals, what is important to him, and on what issues he attaches great importance: His lessons can be read in this case like an open book. Pay close attention to what the teacher responds and asks again and again. At the body language of the teacher, you can also see very easily, whether he just thought that the topic is simple or whether he thought, no one can know the answer. With these things in mind, you can easily suggest, in which area the demand of the teacher can be assumed.

Schoolbook and Notes

You should always take notes and write down what is discussed in the lessons. These issues will be provided as known in the exams and tests. Topics that have been discussed very often or intensively, have a greater likelihood to be queried in an exam. The same applies to the textbook. Go through this book and look at the things, that has been discussed and the things that has been skipped. There are even teachers, using untreated texts from the textbook in an exam. In any case, you should have no loose papers collection, but a well organized and comlete collection of all materials.

Previous Exams

Some teachers take care of new ideas and texts in each exam and test. Other teachers ask the same questions or the same test again (or at least in a modified form). Here, it is worthwhile, to find out these preferences about your teacher and, if necessary to maintain contacts with others in higher classes, in order to get the appropriate previous exams. Even if the teacher always makes new exams, the old exams are a very good exercise.

Curriculum

A teacher is not completely free, in what he does and what he teaches. A teacher is always binded to the curriculum, in which the aims, objectives, contents and methods are written down, which should come into play in the classroom. Each province has its own curriculum and the curriculum between the states can be very different. In general, you can download the curricula on the Internet on the website of the Ministry of Education of your state or perhaps you get it in the school library. If a teacher has told you nothing about what he want, the curriculum can be a good help to at least know what might come off.

This is especially interesting for central exams. Those who create the tests for such exams, can not know, what was teached in the single classrooums in all schools in the country. They can only have a look to the curriculum to know what should be teached in theory, even if the teacher has perhaps done something entireley else.

I hope these tips have helped you and I wish you every success in your next exams and of course at your graduation!
