Brother printer says: No toner when there is toner in it

Just moved my printer - working fine, plenty of toner - plug it in and the printer says there is no toner - install toner.

Does it have an effect when you remove the toner cartridge and insert it again?

Probably you have to reset the printer. This can be different from model to model, you should have a look at the manual of your printer to now what you have to do for the reset.
