Mobile Contract: With or without Smartphone?

Question by Guest | 2017-05-24 at 12:29

So far, I am using a prepaid tariff for my mobile phone. However, I would now like to switch to my first mobile phone contract, because today's flatrates are much cheaper than my previous consumption of prepaid cards.

Now, there are mostly two versions of those contracts: with or without mobile phone or smartphone. Does someone know what version would be cheaper? What would you recommend? Taking only the contract or for an additional charge the contract including the telephone?

If it is better for you to take the contract with or without phone, can easily be calculated.

For example, if the contract with phone is 25 dollar per month more than the contract without phone and if the contract has a term of two years, you pay $25 × 24 months = $600 for your phone.

If you get the same phone at the shop or on the Internet for under $600, it is cheaper to take the contract without phone and to buy your phone where you got the prize under $600. If the mobile phone is otherwise more expensive than $600, the contract with phone is the cheaper alternative. However, it is only cheaper if you really cancel the contract after two years or if you at least do not pay the additional charge or if you even get a new phone after contract expiration.

So, if you already know that you will probably miss the moment at which you have to quit the contract, I would recommend to purchase the mobile phone additionally, even if it is a little bit more expensive at first glance.
