Why is my Samsung Galaxy Tab not charging with my Laptop

My Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is not charging when I connect it with a USB Cable 2 with my laptop, instead it shows a red X over the battery symbol. Pls help.

The USB cable at the computer is not providing as much energy as the charger connected with the wall socket. While the socket charger is providing about 1 A, the USB output at the computer is only providing about 0,5 A. So, probably that is why it is not working: Your Tab needs a higher amperage.
Another reason could be that you are using a broken cable or a cable that is not the original or not well fitting. But if it is working at the wall socket, the reason might be the problem with the current intensity as I mentioned above.
