Question by Guest | Last update on 2024-06-03 | Created on 2024-05-16

Hi, I have a large number of jpg files that I want to display in a totally random order.

Is it possible to assign them a random number?

To give files a random number, you can do the following in the File Renamer:

  1. Right-click the file list and choose "Columns" from the context menu.
  2. On the "Sorting" tab, set the sorting (algorithm) to "Randomly Mixed".

Each time you then click on the header of an arbitrary column, you will get a new random order of all files in the list.

After that, you can apply the numbering as usual, for example with the function "Changes > Name > Mask" in combination with the placeholder %num% or with any of the other numbering options that are described in the tutorial about numbering files with the FileRenamer.
