Samsung Smartphone: Import multiple VCF business card contacts at once

Question by Mandy | 2014-01-06 at 14:23

Recently, I have bought the new Samsung Galaxy Smartphone and now I am faced with the problem that I have to take all of my contacts from my old mobile phone to the new one.

Using this tip for the Outlook Export, I have managed to save the contacts of my old phone as visiting cards (VCARD or VCF File). Now I would like to import those cards to the address book of my new phone.

The problem: All possibilities I have tried so far (for example, Samsung Kies or Google Contacts) only allow to import one VCF-Card at the same time! That is the same as if I enter all the data by hand!

Isn't there an easier, faster way?

There is a trick: What you have to know: A VCard can not only contain one contact but also a list of several contacts.

So, what you have to do is to put the single VCF-Files together under each other to one common big VCF-File.

For this, you can use the application Text Converter, for example, in which you can go through the following steps:

  • Open the Text Converter
  • Drag all of your VCF-Files onto the program
  • In the right column "Actions", select the option "Join Files" (no more settings have to be made)
  • At the right bottom click on "Convert and Save"
  • Now the complete common VCF-File is stored in the same folder, in which the other VCF-Files are located

The free Basic Version of the Text Converter is sufficient for this task. You can not edit each number of files at the same time with this version, but you can just pack the contacts to bundles in order to add them together repeatedly.

Alternatively, if you are comfortable with the command line, you can also use the following command there:

type "C:\folder\*.vcf" >> "C:\folder\all.vcf"

Where "folder" is the directory in which your VCards are stored. Afterwards, all single files are saved in "all.cvf".
