Windows XP: Hotkey for Standby, Restart and Shutdown

Question by Guest | 2015-08-07 at 09:33

I am still using Windows XP on an old computer which I am sometimes running without attached screen (do not ask why).

Now, I am searching for a possibility to control the computer without a mouse and only by using the keyboard. What I am missing is some key combination or keyboard shortcut to be able to enable the hibernation of the computer (standby), to be able to restart the computer or to shut down its completely.

Does someone know any hotkey for that? Thank you very much.

On Windows XP, you can do that in the following way:

  1. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL
  2. Press ALT + H
  3. After that, you can press S for standby, H for hibernate, R for restart or T for turn off.

Using the key combination CTRL + ALT + DEL, on Windows XP you are opening the Windows Task Manager. With ALT + H you go into its menu and with the keys, you can select one of the entries there.
