World Cup: How often was Germany in the Finals?

Question by Hero12 | Last update on 2022-12-20 | Created on 2018-05-11

Surely everyone in Germany knows that Germany won the Football World Cup in the years 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014. Latest since that song of Sportfreunde Stiller.

However, how often was Germany in the finals of the World Cup and would theoretically have had the chance to win the title? And how often was it only enough for the third and fourth place?

Germany is the team that has reached the top four of the Football World Cup for the most times compared to any other country.

PlaceYears
4x World Champion1954, 1974, 1990, 2014
4x Second Place1966, 1982, 1986, 2002
4x Third Place1934, 1970, 2006, 2010
1x Fourth Place1958

Germany became world champion for 4 times (1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014), 4 times Germany was also in the final, but has finished second (1966, 1982, 1986 and 2002), 4 times Germany made the third place (1934, 1970, 2006 and 2010) and once Germany landed in fourth place (1958).

Accordingly, Germany has made it 13 times into the top 4, including 8 times in the finals.

The next best teams are Brazil (10 times), Italy (8 times) and France (6 times) as well as Uruguay (5 times).

If you are also interested in the other countries, you can look at the complete list of all previous top 4 placements at the Football World Cup.
