How fast do muscles break down? 2 weeks vacation okay?

Usually, I go to the gym for pumping at least every 2-3 days. Now, my new girlfriend wants to have beach holidays for two weeks with me, which of course means that my training has to be canceled during that time.

Honestly, I'm afraid that at this time I could break down or degrade all my hard-trained muscles (because they will get no training stimulus during those days).

That's why I very urgently wanted to ask beforehand, from what time on muscles actually break down again. Or do I even have to cancel the holiday? I want to prevent a loss of muscle mass at all costs!

Normally, nothing should happen after one or two weeks of training break. It is even said that it is quite good for the muscles to get a break.

Furthermore, you're not lying in bed with plaster for two weeks (that would really lead to muscle breakdown). If you go swimming and eat properly, there should not be any problems at all.

And against the bad conscience, you can just do a few push-ups from time to time.

Don't one say that muscles take just as long to degenerate, like it took to build them?

However, in the first 2-3 weeks nothing should happen, the degeneration only starts after 4-6 weeks without training. Well, I would say, with normal nutrition and a normal lifestyle, it will be critical from 3-4 weeks, but your two week break should not be problematic at all.

So, just have fun on holiday with your girlfriend! Enjoy it!

Small breaks or a little pause are actually very good for long-term muscle growth. Even if your muscle mass gets a little less at a subjective view during this time, you can just relax, go back into training afterwards and you will quickly reach your old level again and can get even better from this base.
