Is Alcantara a natural material like leather?

Question by Guest | 28/09/2018 at 18:04

Above all, Alcantara is often used in motorsports. For many people, Alcantara is an alternative to real leather and for them, it as a kind of artificial leather.

Is Alcantara a natural material like leather or is it artificially produced?

Alcantara is known by many names (for example Ecsaine or Ultrasuede), it is a good alternative to fabric/suede and leather.

However, Alcantara is not a natural material. It is a synthetic fiber, a microfiber nonwoven fabric consisting of polyester and polyurethane. It is mistakenly considered as a form of artificial leather because it feels similar on the skin. Alcantara is a very soft material which is very absorbent, which is why it is often used in the motorsport area.
