Do I have to be scared of thunderstorms on a cruise ship?
Question by Guest | 2017-01-06 at 19:25
Is it actually dangerous to travel on a cruise ship (or another ship) and a thunderstorm is brewing?
I'm going on a cruise with my family for the first time, and I'm really worried and afraid about that.
Or is the fear of thunderstorms on the high seas unfounded and the matter is completely harmless? How safe is it on a cruise ship when it's thundering?

As long as you stay inside the ship during thunderstorms, there is no danger. It is just like a car that also offers protection during thunderstorms as long as you do not get off (Faraday cage).
Only outdoors, for example on deck, in the outdoor pool or on the balcony, it can be dangerous, especially if you touch something made of metal.
Usually you will not be let out if it's too dangerous anyway. And who wants to stand at the railing in case of storm, when it's comfortable inside?
