What does an S mean on a truck?

I often see trucks with a yellow S behind and wonder what that means. I would appreciate an answer.

The S-sign on trucks is a sign that stands for "very low emission vehicles", i.e. for environmentally friendly vehicles with very low emissions.

This symbol was developed by the Conference of European Transport Ministers (CEMT, Conférence Européenne des Ministres des Transports, now International Transport Forum).
